See räägib loo ilmakuulsast köielkõndijast Charles Blondinist, kes esimese inimesena ületas köiel Niagara joa. Ja siis tegi seda veel – seotud silmadega, enda ees käru veeretades, poolel teel köie peal omletti valmistades… Pärast järjekordset menukat ületamist saabub Blondini juurde nooruk, kes seab ta saavutused kahtluse alla ja nõuab, et köiekunstnik teeks midagi, mis on päriselt vaeva väärt.
Peruu näitekirjaniku Alonso Alegría ajaloosündmusest inspireeritud lugu on tõlgitud viieteistkümnesse keelde ja lavastatud enam kui 50 riigis üle maailma. 1968. aastal kirjutatud näidendi puhul on tähelepanuväärne, et seda endiselt lavale tuuakse. Ja seda ka inimeste poolt, kes ei mäleta Praha kevadet isiklikult. Lavastaja Priit Põldma sõnul põrkuvad näidendis kaks tugeva iseloomuga üksiklast, keda ometi miski liidab. “Kohtuvad noorem ja vanem inimene, teooria ja praktika, hirm ja igatsus. Midagi tuleb ületada, millestki loobuda.”
Priit Põldma on varemgi Kinoteatris tegutsenud, olles vanglalavastuse “Murru 422/2” kaasautoriks. Näitlejad Indrek Sammul ja Teele Pärn, kes said lavastuse proovide käigus tunni ka Eesti tuntuimalt köielkõndijalt Jaan Rooselt, on laval koos esmakordselt.
Vanemad teatrisõbrad võivad, lisaks Praha kevadele, mäletada ka juppe “Niagara ületamise” tekstist Juhan Viidingu ja Tõnis Rätsepa 1977. aasta lavastusest Eesti Draamateatris, mis kandis pealkirja “Niagaara”. Terviklikul kujul ja originaalkeelest tõlgituna jõuab Alonso Alegría tekst aga Eestis lavale esmakordselt. Näidendi on hispaania keelest tõlkinud Margus Alver.
